Why Fire Safety Training Matters for Employers
Article 21 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires responsible persons in England and Wales to ensure employees receive adequate fire safety training when first employed and when new or increased risks arise. Training must reflect workplace risks and be repeated periodically where appropriate.
Online awareness training can help employers provide a consistent foundation of knowledge, but it should be supported by instruction about the actual premises, alarm arrangements, evacuation routes, assembly points and any individual assistance needs. Completing an online course alone does not automatically fulfil every workplace-specific fire safety duty.
